Ignacio Ellacuría collection, 1956-1989.

The collection consists of photocopies of documents arranged by early writings, 1956-63; philosophical writings; theological writings; political essays; works in English translation; writings on the works of Ellacuría and Zubiri; and unpublished writings divided into early 1956-66, province retreat talks, publication of Teología política, course notes and lectures, theological writings, and reflections on the national reality. Included in the collection but not listed on the Inventory are a series of typescript titled short articles or talks, 1978-85. Also included is Ellacuría's 1965 dissertation.

Born in Spain 1930, Ellacuría joined the Jesuits in 1947. He was sent to El Salvador where he became a naturalized citizen. Ellacuría worked closely with the philosopher Xavier Zubiri and wrote his 1965 dissertation on Zubiri's philosophy. Ellacuría was president of the University of Central America (Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas), chair of the philosophy department, and editor of several publications.
